My "No Poo" Journey

Several of my friends have become "No Pooers" and have convinced me to try it. Now, I know what you're thinking...that can't be healthy and why on earth is Rebecca sharing this fact on a public blog for all the world to see? I'm talking about not using shampoo. Ever again.

Sounds greasy and oily at first, right? But just because I wont be shampooing my hair doesn't mean I wont be cleaning my hair.

And since Jenna said it better than I can:

The idea is, shampoo strips the hair of its natural oils. This is because it has sulfates in it. So, the hair and scalp become dry, sending the message to the oil glands to produce more! Which is why your hair becomes greasy easily if you shampoo it frequently.

Cones are bad because they are ionic (charged) and cannot be removed from the hair shaft with water and soap alone. A sulfate must be used. And as I mentioned before, sulfates are BAD. Cones block the hair shaft from receiving proper moisture.

I started day one by washing with baking soda, rinsing with apple cider vinegar and then Co-washing (washing with a cone free conditioner)

Day One:
BS/V Wash and CoWash

Day Three:
Haven't done a thing to it since! I'll be CoWashing tomorrow...

Oh, Becka...I'll take all your stockpile of shampoo if you become a "No Poo-er" but does this journey really pass the smell test ???

Answers:
1. I doubt it. In fact, No !

2. Better use for the ingredients needed: Laundry & the kitty box (baking soda) Cleaning anything greasy except hair (vinegar)

3. The Verdict: Just a fad (and what they used to use before indoor plumbing and the sulfate filled shampoos (everyone smelled to high heaven back then !!!) Some things from the past belong there, not here ! LOL

Just because I am not "shampooing" my hair doesn't mean I'm not cleaning it! Just using healthier products for it :)

Wow! You quoted me. :)

Aren't you loving it? I am never going back, personally!

I can attest that my hair doesn't smell! In fact, it smells yummy, like the coconut conditioner I use. And it feels amazing.

I was just going to ask, "how does it smell" and I read Lynn's comment. :) I was thinking the cider vinegar would be pretty odiferous.

It smells great! You only do the baking soda/vinegar or lemon juice once every couple of weeks...and just rinse it and you wont smell anything!

Right now I just use the coconut conditioner...yummy!

okay...I might be willing to give it a try if you offer me some detailed instructions and an explanation of the co-wash.

A sincere apology:

Having actually smelled Becka's beautiful hair, I must retract my above opinion and beg forgiveness LOL

And I am sorry if I swayed anyone away from trying this treatment...the proof is in the pudding ! ( I am sometimes too much like Elizabeth Bennet for my own good )

Yes!! I love it! I've been looking into no-poo too, but I haven't had the guts to follow through. I tried a co wash, but it made my head itchy. I know I need to just jump right in, maybe soon...
