The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I suppose the purpose of keeping a journal is to not only record the happy and wonderful things that happen in your life, but also to record the bad. Nephi kept a record of his life, including the times his brothers repeatedly tried to kill him. Ammon recorded about preaching repentance and about his people trying to shoot him down from the city wall. Alma the younger didn’t exactly have the most uplifting track record to begin with. Abinidi being burned to death was also recorded in the most precious journal we have available, The Book of Mormon. I’m not comparing my little mundane blog to the scriptures, but here is my bummer entry:

My husband lost his job today. It seems as though one of the head honchos at the dealership has a personal vendetta against Michael and has been looking for any reason possible to get rid of him. Today was the day. I guess the thing that upsets me the most is that he wasted the gas to get out there, only to be told to go home and never come back.

I’m so grateful that I have a job, albeit part time. I’m grateful that I have spent the last few months obsessing over my couponing habit and now have quite the food storage.

I suppose now is as good a time as any to let everyone know that Mike is planning to start the Police Academy in August. He had planned on working full time and going part time for eleven months. We may take this opportunity for him to go full time and be finished in five months. It is going to mean a lot of sacrifice and a lot of patience, but it just may work.

Please try to remember us in your prayers…right now we can use all the help we can get.

Beck,I'm so sorry. You'll be fine though. With your faith and dedication to the gospel and your family- you'll make it. Let me know if you need anything. in 5 years you might look back on this as a blessing. In fact, I'm sure you will. Just be patient.
Love you,
Kell.

Oh man. I'm sorry Becka. I agree with Kelly, this may just be a blessing in disguise.

Becka, I am so sorry. I agree, it's a blessing in disguise! The EXACT same thing happened to Clint two years ago. I was royally pissed off at is jacka$$ of a boss, but it worked out for the best. His hours sucked anyway with only one day off a week. Wanna know what we did? We took a vacation. It was so nice. It was small, but the time away together was priceless. Two weeks later he started his job he has now. It was steadier and had at least three days off a week. Wanna know what we did next? Got pregnant. That was the greatest blessing of all, and it wouldn't have happened if he hadn't gotten fired. Hang in there. You can do it.

Ahh Becka, I'm sorry. :( I don't know what else to say but you seem like a very strong capable woman and I'm sure your dh is grateful to have you at his side during this time.

What an awesome group of friends! With cheerleaders like this there's no way they would let you guys get depressed! Just remember that HF knows what's going on and you've been driven on the coupon stuff for a reason. I think we can all take a lesson from you girls... be prepared! Build up on the supplies that you need. Becka that would be great for Michael to be done in 5 months with his training...things happen for a reason.

Oh Becka, I'm sorry! That sucks. But I have to say that Court worked in a car dealership for 10 years or so and I'm so happy he is no longer in that environment. I hated it.

You guys are totally going to be fine and that's exciting about the police academy!

I am also sorry Becka...we have been in the same situation in the past and it all did work out for the best...you and Mike have been following our leaders inspired words and are prepared, so there is no need to fear.

Amen to what all the girls and Nana Scott said...we all love your family...If there is anything my family can do, just let us know... we're there for you !

I know this has to be so stressful but more than likely in the end you will be happy that it has happened because it pushes you both to be and do something better. I wish you guys luck in your new adventure.

That sucks, but it is such a blessing that you are so prepared with your couponing. It will all work out.

Oh, my sweet Rebecca! How very sorry I am . . . but I echo the sentiments of every other person on here. You will be okay. These next few months may be really tough, but you're going to make it. As you know, Christian lost his job (our sole income) last year and it took him 6 months to find a job. We stressed and worried, but kept paying tithing on unemployment and the part-time job I was able to get. And the Lord blessed us so very much. He truly is mindful of you and your needs and He will bless you and take care of your wonderful little family. It's amazing how He sometimes prepares us for things like this -- for us, it was that we were FINALLY able to have some money in savings riht before it happened. For you, it may be the food storage you've been able to save up. Our prayers are with you and I have faith that you will be okay. You and your husband are made of some pretty tough stuff . . . and I know that our Father in Heaven loves you very, very much. Sometimes we need things like this to happen in our lives so that we will make changes that take us to better and happier places in our lives. We love you guys.

Becca, I am really sorry. I was fired from a job once and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Really. It wont seem like that now but I cant wait to see how you guys triumph over this trial.

I'm so, so sorry!! Something similar happened to us about a year ago and it was honestly one of the worst periods of time in my life. But it's ended up being a huge blessing, even if we're STILL recovering financially! Hang in there and everything will work out!!

Becka,

Sorry for your husbands job loss, but make sure he applies for unemployment. I don't know how it works where you are, but here in VA, you can also get unemployment if you are in school to train for a new job. Check on that as well.

I am thinking of you and your family and know that your extended friends are here for you as well.

Perhaps you can hold online classes for your couponing expertise for those of us that are challenged in that field. LOL!! Hey, sell that knowledge, it can be a gold mine.

Becka- I'm sorry about this. But I kind of think it's going to work out for the better for your family in the end, just from reading you post. Good luck and I will say an extra prayer for your family. :)

I ditto everyone else in saying YOU CAN DO THIS! You're going to come out the other side of this in an even better place. I'm sorry it has to suck right now, though. I've yet to meet a friend that got fired/laid off and it didn't end up being for the best. HUGS

I am sorry to hear about Mike's job...but I acree with Lacey, it might end up being the best thing that ever happened to you guys! I know your faith will lead you through the tough times. And as my mom says, it's when you are in the middle of a trial you should feel the most love from our Heavenly Father! I would have to second that quote!

Becka, I am really sorry. I totlaly understand the whole lay off thing, we have been thru it 3 times and it is never easy.

I will say though, that you are right about all the blessings in your life, that you have your stock pile from couponing, and that you have your part time job, and that he can now maybe get out of the police acadamy in 5 months time. Hang in there girl, and I am so sorry.

I am so sorry to hear about this. Things have a strange way of working out. Hang in there and see what the Lord has in store for you.

Becka, I'm really sorry. But I agree with some of the others; it's a blessing, because now Mike can do what he wants to instead of working for someone who hates him.

Everything will work out for you!

Ditto to everyone else, I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope everything works out and comes together very soon.

BTW I am so excited about your recipe page! :)
